This is my favourite topic to write about lgbt celebrations around the world and some important events that you may need to know.
The global LGBTQ+ community is buzzing with energy as we transition from the vibrant conclusion of February into a promising March. From groundbreaking cultural festivals to high-energy pride celebrations, there’s an incredible array of events designed to uplift, entertain, and connect. Here’s your passport to the most exciting happenings around the world.
North America: Festivals, Art & Activism
- San Francisco Queer Film Festival (Feb 19 – March 1, USA): Kicking off in late February, this festival is a must for film buffs, showcasing a diverse range of queer cinema from emerging and established filmmakers. Expect premieres, director Q&As, and lively discussions.
- Miami Beach Pride (March 1 – 8, USA): One of the earliest major Pride events of the year, Miami Beach Pride promises a week of sun-soaked celebrations. From the colorful parade down Ocean Drive to beach parties, cultural events, and a vibrant festival village, it’s a fantastic warm-up for the season.
- SXSW (South by Southwest) – Queer Track (March 13 – 22, Austin, USA): While not exclusively LGBTQ+, SXSW in Austin dedicates significant programming to queer voices in film, music, and interactive media. Look for panels on LGBTQ+ rights, screenings of new queer films, and performances by queer artists.
- Winter Party Festival (Feb 26 – March 3, Miami, USA): This week-long celebration is a significant fundraiser for LGBTQ+ causes, featuring a series of circuit parties, social events, and a popular beach party in support of the National LGBTQ Task Force.
Europe: Culture, Community & Unforgettable Parties
- Amsterdam Leather & Fetish Pride (Feb 27 – March 1, Netherlands): This niche, yet hugely popular, event draws a dedicated crowd from across Europe and beyond. Expect a packed schedule of parties, workshops, and social gatherings celebrating leather and fetish culture.
- Carnival of Venice – LGBTQ+ Nights (Feb 21 – March 3, Italy): While the Carnival is a historical spectacle, specific venues and party organizers host fabulous LGBTQ+ events, masquerade balls, and themed nights throughout the duration, offering a queer twist on the traditional festivities.
- Oslo LGBTQ+ Film Days (March 10 – 15, Norway): A colder climate doesn’t mean less heat! This film festival in Norway showcases the best of Nordic and international queer cinema, providing a platform for storytelling and visibility in a more intimate setting.
- Dublin Gay Theatre Festival Launch Event (March 17, Ireland): While the main festival is later in the year, March often sees the launch event or announcement of the program, celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with a queer flair and giving a sneak peek at upcoming theatrical performances.
Asia-Pacific: Trailblazing Celebrations
- Sydney Mardi Gras (Feb 16 – March 3, Australia): The absolute pinnacle of the Southern Hemisphere’s LGBTQ+ calendar. The main parade on March 1st is a global spectacle. Beyond the parade, the festival features Fair Day, numerous parties, cultural events, and thought-provoking discussions.
- Tokyo Rainbow Reel Festival (Late Feb – Early March, Japan): Japan’s premier queer film festival, it brings a crucial platform for LGBTQ+ stories to the big screen in Tokyo. It’s a key event for visibility and community building in the region.
- Thailand Songkran Festival – Gay Circuit Parties (April 13-15, but pre-parties in late March): While Songkran is in April, the major international gay circuit parties (like gCircuit) often begin their pre-festival events and ticket sales in late March, creating massive anticipation for the water festival’s queer takeover.
Latin America: Passion & Protest
- Guadalajara Gay Pride Planning Meetings (Throughout Feb-March, Mexico): While the main parade is later, the vibrant LGBTQ+ community in Guadalajara actively holds public planning meetings and smaller social events throughout these months, building momentum and community.
- Rio de Janeiro Carnival – LGBTQ+ Focus (Feb 28 – March 5, Brazil): Rio’s Carnival is an explosion of joy, and the LGBTQ+ community is at its heart. Expect dedicated blocos (street parties), drag performances, and vibrant parties like the legendary “Gala Gay” that celebrate queer culture during this global event.
Africa & Middle East: Emerging Voices & Digital Spaces
- Online Panels & Discussions on LGBTQ+ Rights in Africa (Throughout Feb-March): Many organizations host virtual events focused on human rights, safety, and community building for LGBTQ+ individuals across Africa, providing crucial support and advocacy in challenging environments.
- Digital Queer Art Exhibitions: Several online galleries and platforms are showcasing queer artists from regions where public physical events are restricted, allowing for global participation and appreciation.
I think the global LGBTQ+ calendar for February and March 2026 is a testament to the community’s resilience, creativity, and unwavering spirit. Whether you’re seeking celebration, cultural enrichment, or a platform for advocacy, there’s a place for you under the rainbow.

Rainbow Wellness Hub was created from a simple observation. Conversations about identity, wellbeing, health, and confidence often exist in separate corners of the internet, even though they are deeply connected in real life.
